Look! You're Topless! 😲

So I gotta tell you about this shoot. Something so simple happened but it was so powerful and relatable that I just gotta share it with you!

So, my client turns up - let’s call her Sarah for the sake of this blog post (she went for the privacy option) - and like 99.9% of the people I shoot, she’s nervous. That’s totally fine and expected.

She gets her hair and makeup done. She doesn’t drink so instead has a virgin Pina colada. The shoot starts and she follows my lead. She’s still nervous, as expected.

I won’t go into all the details, as you probably know all of this by now from my previous emails, but let’s skip to her last outfit. It was a mesh bodysuit, that was mostly transparent. We agreed we would build up to this. But let me tell you what happened next…

She decided she wanted to wear pasties over her nipples so that they wouldn’t be visible in the images. Totally fine. But she couldn’t find them. We had used them earlier in the shoot and they’d been misplaced. I was looking through images on my camera whilst she was rummaging around in her bag behind me.

“Have you seen my pasties anywhere, Merv?”

I turn around and she’s topless. Boobs fully exposed. Completely at ease. Not self-conscious. Not embarrassed. Clearly not nervous. And possibly oblivious to all of this.

“Sarah! Look! You’re topless!”

She covered herself up quickly as the realisation struck her that she had her boobs out and then the second wave of realisation came that she’d already sone it!

“I think I’m comfortable with it now. I’m rolling with it.”

And that’s the story on how Sarah got her groove back. And it’s a reminder that confidence isn’t just provided by the photos but mainly the experience. Whilst it’s impossible to imagine, this is the journey most women go on during a shoot. Not going topless necessarily, but moving through the gears, from fear to fearless.
