The Privilege
Hey, welcome back to You at Yours!
I want to talk to you today about the privilege.
If you're watching this, you may or may not have had a session before. If you haven't had a session before, what may be completely new to you is the fact that you will love your images. I can guarantee it.
I've done this so many times now. I've not had a single person come in and decide they don't want any of them because they don't like them. It's just never happened. Five hundred plus people.
So, with that in mind, what I always encourage my clients to do is when they come in to see their images, they, of course, sit there, and you might do the same. You just come to the office and you'll sit there and you'll say to me, "Merv, you're amazing. You know, you were great. The experience was wonderful. I had such a good time, but you know it's nothing to do with you if I don't love the images. It's, you know, don't take it personally. It's okay. You know, it's not you, it's me. If I only want one or two, please don't be offended." And I sit there, "Yeah. Sure. I understand." And you know what? I can be pedantic. You know, I have to be respectful. Where this is coming from, it's just low self-esteem. It's a lack of understanding of how amazing you are. But it's okay, I've got you.
Moments later, there are usually tears, because it's completely unbelievable how it is possible to love as many as they do. And at that moment, I point this out to every single person.
When they sit there, or when you sit there and you select 50, for example, that you love and you cannot believe that it's you. I will say to you that at this moment, irrelevant of what happens next, you have to acknowledge the fact that you love 50 photos of yourself because you thought it would be impossible to love any. You thought that you were only gonna like one or two and here you are loving 50. That's a fantastic feeling.
And you know what the privilege is, it's when we go over the images and you're like, "Oh, oh, I love that." And then the next one, "Nah, not that keen on that one." And then the next one, "Aah, oh my God, that's me." And then the next one, "Oh my God." And then the next one and the next one.
It's a beautiful feeling and it can just feel so natural after you go for the first 10 or 20 or 30 of you looking incredible, and it's a privilege. You just take advantage of it. You take it for granted and it's okay. It's a beautiful feeling.
My job is to make sure that you remain present, acknowledging that privilege and acknowledging the fact that you will love that many. You will. It's just the way it goes.
And I wanted to share that with you. It's a beautiful thing, one of my favorite parts of my job. One of the best things about my work is that moment, that realization, it's just...
There's nothing else like it in the world.
I wanted to share that with you.
Have a great one!
